Many of SAC's sets depict historic battles, famous characters from literature or popular figures from a particular era. These beautiful and decorative sets are hand-crafted from crushed and powered stone bound up with pigmented resin. Every chess piece is completely hand made. From the basic raw materials through to the finished product every process is carried out by hand. The only exception is a cleaning and polishing process in which the pieces are put through special machines. Even these machines have been developed for particular use in the preparation of the chess pieces, for, although the pieces are quite durable, fine details such as noses, horses ear's, swords, daggers and flag staffs could be snapped of if treated too roughly. The machines are made to clean the pieces thoroughly but gently. These intricately detailed pieces are painted by hand. A team of highly skilled and dedicated artists carry out this extremely time consuming task. Every piece receives at least three coats of paint, some pieces might have as many as six. Please note: We sell our chess boards seperately - for advice on choosing an appropriate board, call us now on UK freephone 0800 01 888844.

Battle of Waterloo Chess Set
The Battle of Waterloo was one of the most significant European battles, as its result determined Europe's future. SAC's sculptors and designers have combined to create, from the principal characters of the era a chess set of great authentic detail. The final and decisive battle of the Napoleonic Wars took place on the 18th of June 1815, near the village of Waterloo, just south of Brussels, Belgium. The combined armies of the British and Prussian forces under their Commander in Chief, the Duke of Wellington, met in battle with the french Army commanded by Napoleon. Battle of Trafalgar Chess Set
It was the year of 1805, the year when it seemed that at long last Napoleon would invade England, which, for twelve years, had stood in the path of the Grand Armée´s complete domination of Europe. It was the year when, in the face of all the evidence to the contrary, Napoleon had suddenly convinced himself that his united fleet could annihilate any squadron which the English could put to sea to meet it. The English are represented by Edward II who reigned from 1284 until 1327 when he was deposed, imprisoned and horrifically killed at the behest of his wife, the Queen of England, Isabella of France.
